Born on January 1, 1987, in Kayamkulam, Kerala, Anil grew up in a middle-class family. His interest in business started early. Even during his school years, he was fascinated by the idea of building businesses and dreamed of becoming a successful entrepreneur.
He completed his BSc in Mathematics from Kerala University between 2004 and 2007 and later moved to Bengaluru for his higher studies. He pursued an MBA in Sales and Marketing from Acharya Institute of Management, affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University, from 2007 to 2009. He later earned a doctorate in Global Business Management from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
From Business Failures to Sales
After completing his MBA, Anil began his professional career in the sales departments of multinational companies. Although he was building a career in sales, his ambition was always to start something of his own.
Eventually, he left his corporate career and invested his savings in a series of business ventures. He tried his hand at eight different ventures, but none of them worked out as planned. Instead, the failures left him with debts of more than ₹1.20 crore at a relatively young age.
That period became one of the most difficult phases of his life. At the same time, it forced him to take a closer look at what had gone wrong.
He realised that sales was where his real strength and experience lay. Rather than trying to manage every aspect of a business, he decided to concentrate on the area he understood best — sales.
That decision eventually changed the direction of his career.
Anil moved into sales coaching and training, helping individuals and organisations improve the way they approach selling, leadership, business growth, and customer relationships.
Building a Career in Sales Coaching
What started as a decision born out of personal experience gradually became his profession.
He founded Anil Balachandran The Salesman Pvt. Ltd., which was later renamed The King Maker. His work has since expanded beyond India, with training and coaching programmes conducted across Asia, the GCC and Africa.
Over the years, he has worked with thousands of salespeople, entrepreneurs, CEOs and business owners. His programmes have covered areas ranging from sales performance and team building to business strategy and leadership.
According to his professional profile, he has trained more than 3 lakh sales professionals across 11 countries and has coached over 10,000 CEOs and business owners. He has also built a community of more than 1,000 entrepreneurs, with an emphasis on continuous learning, peer interaction and business expansion.
His work has taken him across six continents, where he has provided coaching and training to business leaders from different industries and backgrounds.
Making Sales Knowledge More Accessible
Anil’s work is not limited to paid programmes and corporate training.
During the COVID-19 period, he began sharing training content online for people who were unable to attend in-person programmes. Through his YouTube channel, he published around 1,000 training videos covering sales, business and personal development.
The content reached millions of viewers and became an important way for him to stay connected with sales professionals and entrepreneurs during a difficult period for businesses around the world.
He also introduced the “Salesman of the Year Award”, an initiative aimed at recognising talented Malayali sales professionals and giving greater visibility to the sales profession in Kerala.
The Kings Club
One of Anil’s major initiatives is The Kings Club, a business community created for entrepreneurs and business leaders.
The club has more than 400 active members from areas such as technology, finance, healthcare, real estate and other sectors. The idea behind the community is simple: business growth is not only about knowledge, but also about the people you meet, the relationships you build and the experiences you share.
Members get an opportunity to interact with other entrepreneurs, exchange ideas, explore collaborations and learn from business leaders with different experiences.
Under Anil’s guidance, the community focuses on creating an environment where entrepreneurs can learn from one another and find opportunities to grow beyond their existing markets.
A Different Perspective on Sales
For Anil, sales is more than simply convincing someone to buy a product or service.
His philosophy comes from years of working in the field and from experiencing both success and failure as an entrepreneur. He believes that sustainable business growth depends on having capable salespeople, a strong sales culture and a clear understanding of customers.
One of his frequently expressed ideas is that helping someone make a sale is useful, but helping someone make a profit creates real business value.
This philosophy has shaped his approach to sales coaching — focusing not only on increasing sales numbers, but also on building professionals and teams that can create sustainable business results.
Life and Work Today
Anil is currently based in Dubai and continues to work with companies, entrepreneurs, CEOs and sales teams in India and international markets.
His journey has been far from straightforward. From growing up in a middle-class family in Kerala, to working in multinational companies, taking entrepreneurial risks, losing money, carrying substantial debt and eventually building a career around sales coaching, his professional journey has been shaped as much by failure as by success.
That experience remains an important part of his approach today.
Rather than presenting entrepreneurship as a straight road to success, Anil’s story reflects the reality that setbacks can sometimes reveal the direction in which a person is best suited to grow.
Today, his work revolves around one central objective: helping sales professionals, entrepreneurs and business leaders become better at selling, leading and building sustainable businesses.
