Lulu Group is set to strengthen its presence in Kerala with the launch of a new hypermarket in Changanassery, marking its second outlet in Kottayam district. The upcoming store will be located within the under-construction KGA Mall and will span approximately 50,000 square feet, further expanding the retail giant’s footprint in central Kerala.
The project moved a step closer after Lulu Group and KGA Group signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to establish the new hypermarket. The agreement was signed by Joy Shadanandan, Director of Lulu Thiruvananthapuram and Tamil Nadu, and K.C. Eapen, Director and CEO of KGA Group, in the presence of Lulu Group Chairman M.A. Yusuff Ali and KGA Group Chairman K.G. Abraham.
Once operational, the Changanassery outlet is expected to serve customers not only from Kottayam but also from neighbouring districts including Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Kollam. The project is also expected to generate more than 550 direct and indirect employment opportunities, contributing to the region’s economic growth.
According to Lulu Group, the strong customer response to its existing hypermarket at Nattakom in Kottayam played a key role in the decision to expand within the district. The company believes the new outlet will improve shopping convenience while supporting local employment and business development.
KGA Group said the partnership with Lulu Group would significantly enhance the commercial appeal of the upcoming KGA Mall, positioning it as a major retail and lifestyle destination for central Kerala.
In addition to the Lulu Hypermarket, the mixed-use development will feature international retail brands, restaurants, cafés, entertainment facilities, a luxury hotel, banquet spaces, and extensive parking infrastructure. The mall is expected to become one of the region’s largest integrated shopping destinations.
The project is part of KGA Group’s broader expansion strategy in Kerala. Following developments such as Crowne Plaza Kochi and KGA Elite Continental Hotel in Thiruvalla, the group is planning to roll out several new projects across the state.
