Kerala has reported a healthy rise in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections, reflecting stronger business activity and improving consumer demand across the state. During July 2026, Kerala generated ₹3,152 crore through domestic GST collections, marking a 16% increase compared to ₹2,711 crore recorded in July last year.

After accounting for the state’s share of Integrated GST (IGST) from the Centre, Kerala’s total GST revenue for the month reached ₹3,161 crore, representing a 17% year-on-year increase. The figures highlight continued momentum in the state’s tax collections despite a marginal dip from the previous month’s domestic collection.

The positive trend has been consistent throughout the current financial year. Between April and July 2026, Kerala received ₹12,864 crore in post-settlement GST revenue, up from ₹10,516 crore during the same period in the previous year. The 22% growth reflects stronger economic activity, improved tax compliance, and higher consumption levels.

The growth in Kerala mirrors the national trend, as India recorded its highest-ever GST collection for July. The country collected ₹2.11 lakh crore in GST revenue during the month, registering a 15.4% increase over the corresponding period last year. The surge was supported by robust domestic transactions as well as a sharp rise in tax collections from imports.

Imported goods emerged as one of the strongest contributors to national GST revenue, recording significantly faster growth than domestic collections. Economists believe rising imports, increased consumer spending, and higher business activity ahead of the festive season have all contributed to the impressive performance.

Among the states, Maharashtra retained its position as the country’s largest GST contributor with collections exceeding ₹32,000 crore. Karnataka, Gujarat, Haryana, and Telangana also reported strong growth, while Tamil Nadu recorded a slight decline compared to the previous year.

For Kerala, the latest GST figures indicate a strengthening economy driven by expanding commercial activity, improved compliance, and sustained demand across key sectors. If the current trend continues, the state is expected to maintain healthy revenue growth during the remainder of the financial year.
