Muthoot Fincorp Ltd., the flagship company of the Muthoot Pappachan Group, has been honoured with The Economic Times ‘Family Business of the Year – Large’ award. The recognition celebrates family-owned enterprises that have demonstrated strong financial performance, robust corporate governance, professional management, and a successful transition of leadership across generations.
Chairman and Managing Director Thomas John Muthoot said the award is a tribute to everyone who has contributed to building the organisation over the years. He added that the recognition reinforces the company’s commitment to delivering reliable financial services to millions of customers across India.
Chief Executive Officer Shaji Varghese said the company’s transformation from a gold loan-focused business into a diversified financial services platform has been driven by disciplined execution and continuous innovation. He noted that the award will inspire the organisation to continue serving customers and communities with greater responsibility.
The Muthoot Pappachan Group traces its roots back to 1887, when Ninan Mathai started a small grain trading business in Kozhencherry, Kerala. Today, with a legacy spanning 139 years, the group has expanded beyond financial services into hospitality, automotive, real estate, and renewable energy.
Headquartered in Thiruvananthapuram, Muthoot Fincorp operates more than 5,610 branches across India and serves over 6.3 million customers. The company focuses on providing fast and accessible financial solutions, particularly in semi-urban and rural markets, and currently manages assets under management (AUM) worth approximately ₹73,445 crore.
The company also invests in employee recognition through its ‘Blue Carnival’ programme, which rewards top-performing employees with exclusive opportunities, including meeting the group’s brand ambassador, Shah Rukh Khan.
