Forbes Middle East has published a list of the richest expatriates in the UAE. Chang Peng Shao, the founder of Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, topped the list. His net worth is $11,000 crore (Rs 10.47 lakh crore). Lulu Group Chairman MA Yusuff Ali is the richest Malayali in the list. His net worth is $5.8 billion (Rs 55,200 crore). He is in sixth place.
RP Group founder Ravi Pillai ($4.2 billion – Rs 40,000 crore), GEMS Education chief Sunny Varkey ($4 billion – Rs 38,000 crore), Sobha Group founder PNC Menon ($390 million – Rs 37,140 crore) and Burjeel Holdings chairman Dr. Shamseer Vayalil (USD 18 crore – Rs 17,144 crore) is the other Keralites in the list.
The ranking highlights expatriates who have made significant contributions to the UAE’s economic growth and development in sectors such as retail, construction, real estate, healthcare, finance and education. According to Forbes Middle East, the total wealth of billionaires in the real estate and investment sectors alone is $136.3 billion.
Indian businessman Vinod Adani is second on the list with a net worth of $20.8 billion. A total of nine Indians have made it to the list, which is the highest representation from any country. Overall, the ranked Indian billionaires have a net worth of $4.99 billion. The oldest of them is Dhruv Sawhney, chairman of Triveni Engineering & Industries, who is 81 years old.
Meanwhile, Adani Group owner Gautam Adani has overtaken Reliance’s Mukesh Ambani to become Asia’s richest man in Bloomberg’s list of billionaires published last month. According to the latest figures, Gautam Adani is the 19th richest person in the world with a net worth of $9,260 crore (about Rs 8.59 lakh crore). Mukesh Ambani is ranked 20th with a net worth of $9,080 crore (about Rs 8.42 lakh crore).
Only Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani from India are in the top 50. In the last financial year, Adani’s wealth increased by $8.1 billion, while Adani lost $16.9 billion. Tesla owner Elon Musk, who is at the top of the list, is far ahead. His net worth is $65,600 crore (Rs 60.84 lakh crore). In one year, Musk added $36.7 billion to his net worth. The second is Google’s Larry Page. His net worth is $286 billion (Rs 26.52 lakh crore).
